This is a legendary performance: Celibidache & the Münchner Philharmoniker revisited Japan after 4 years, in October 1990 & played Bruckner symphonies 4, 7 & 8. The performance on the last day, was selected as the best orchestra concert in the year, receiving rave reviews from the local media. Some said, given this is a long performance, that concetration of the musicians could tend to wander, but on the 20th concentration was perfect.

Never think of Celibidache as slow. Too many critics focus on minutes & seconds in recordings. That approach is irrelevant. It is all about beat & rhythm which become pulse. Celibidache understands that concept. Coupled with that is texture as it manifests itself in harmony. What you get as a listener out of this performance solely depends on your focus & concentration when you listen & emptying your mind of all performances you may be familiar with.

The world of Bruckner is a spiritual journey of darkness & doubt which eventually is crushed by hope & triumph. Stick with Celibidache. He understands space & time & their relationship. He is a master of the build up of tension & its eventual release into a cataclysm of brightness & salvation in sound.
