DO NOT MISS THIS DISC!
Lovely, wonderful, inspired, poised performances by an aristocrat pianist. Arrau, who studied with 1 of Liszt's students, brings us the 19th-century grand manner in music that in lesser hands can sound empty & like so much Romantic slapdash claptrap. Make no mistake, this is pianism of the most patrician & musical quality that never takes ANY musical gesture as a throw-away.
The sound of the disc, like most of Philips' original solo discs for Arrau, is lovely, mellow, & even reproduces Arrau's breathing before larger gestures, but expands with great power when strength is applied to the instrument, without strain.
This is, as was the RBCD, a disc of exalted musicmaking to treasure, now reincarnated in RQR of the highest quality!
