Leonid Kogan - Beethoven Violin Concertos - Paris Conservatoire Orchestra - Constantin Silvestri - Tower definition Series TDSA-56/7 (2017) 2x SACD rips via PS3 to 2x iso (5.5GB) | 2ch hybrid | Originally Warner WQGC-69/70 | DR13&12 | Classical What is so special about Kogan & this performance & recording? He's considered 1 of the 20th century's violin greats along with Heifetz, Milstein, Oistrakh & some others, but regardless of lists & placement within such lists, his playing here is dramatic, forceful & intense, yet crystalline-silky. I don't feel all that comfortable writing about soloists or comparing this performance to others I've heard live & on record because I'm really not qualified, so I'll leave that to others. Let's just say it's a performance that you can listen to repeatedly & be thrilled every play. As for the recording, well it is an old stereo recording that's somewhat distant, with left-right separation that's strictly old school, but it leaves the centre for Kogan's violin, which is richly recorded tonally & texturally. This new Tower remaster gets the most possible out of these old tapes. httpv://youtu.be/UhhC-LNs4xk For the Beethoven part only, some might want to seek out the version from HDTT: https://www.highdeftapetransfers.com/products/beethoven-violin-concerto-leonid-kogani-violin-constantin-silvestri-conducting-the-paris-conservatoire-orchestra Tracks: Beethoven 01-Violin Concerto in D Major, Op.61 I.Allegro ma non troppo - Cadenza (by joachim) - Tempo I 02-Violin Concerto in D Major, Op.61 II.
